This past Thursday (Nov 16), over 25 spirited students and faculty gathered at the beautiful, new Downtown Campus at Monroe Community College (MCC) in Rochester, New York for our second annual Mapathon! We were joined by 3 enthusiastic YouthMappers from SUNY Geneseo’s GIS Association who helped to facilitate the event.
Our efforts focused on delineating roads in Kyenjojo, Uganda in support of the Saving Mothers Giving Life project to reduce maternal and newborn mortality in sub-Saharan African countries. Following our mapping, we shared pizza and celebrated our accomplishments and new friendships.
Future plans include holding a Mapathon every semester, starting a new student organization, and becoming the first Community College Chapter of YouthMappers in New York. We look forward to continuing to work with YouthMappers “to help create resilient communities”!
