In 2015, a bold idea took root to empower young people across the globe to create and use open mapping and geospatial technologies to make a difference in their communities and beyond. That idea blossomed into YouthMappers. Since then, thousands of students from over 400 university chapters across more than 80 countries have joined the movement, impacting the lives of about 68 million people with over 26 million OSM edits. Together, we’ve built maps that save lives, support sustainable development, and strengthen resilience in the face of global challenges. But more than maps, we’ve built a global community of passionate, skilled, and socially driven leaders.

As we approach the 10th anniversary of YouthMappers, we want this milestone to be more than just a celebration. It should be a moment of reflection, connection, and inspiration. And we want you, our alumni, to be at the heart of it. Whether you were one of the founding members of your chapter, led a local project, participated in a global campaign, or contributed quietly behind the scenes, your journey is part of our story. This anniversary is a chance to reconnect with each other, honor our collective impact, and imagine what’s next for this powerful global network.

We're forming a team to help co-create and co-lead the 10th anniversary celebrations. As an alum, you bring experience, perspective, and energy that can make this moment truly meaningful.

Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

  • Join the planning committee to help shape global or regional events

  • Share your story—tell us what YouthMappers meant to you and how it’s shaped your path

  • Contribute photos, videos, or blog posts from your time in the network

  • Lead or support virtual meetups, panel discussions, or mapathons

  • Offer your expertise in design, communications, event planning, or outreach

Whether you’re in academia, industry, government, or community development, your insights and presence are invaluable. If you're interested in being part of this global celebration, please fill out this short interest form.

Let’s honor our shared legacy and continue mapping the future we believe in.
