On Tuesday, August 06, 2019, the inaugural ceremony of YouthMappers UAO activities were held at the second campus of Alassane Ouattara University at the American Corner in Bouaké, Ivory Coast. It started at 09h45minutes in the presence of 25 participants. The ceremony began with the presentation on the YouthMappers community. Then a presentation was made on open geographic data extraction techniques for academics and finally a presentation of the OSM Tracker application.
With regard to the presentation of the UAO YouthMappers community, Mr. ADINGRA Pacôme, initiator and president of the chapter YouthMappers CURAT in Abidjan and 2019 YouthMappers Leadership Fellow, highlighted the community's goal of training young people and academics in cartography. He also mentioned the various responsibilities that were incumbent on the community, including the implementation of mapping projects that would benefit everyone.
Regarding the presentation on data extraction techniques, it was moderated by Mr. GABÉ Anicet, the first manager of YouthMappers UAO. The demonstration of this technique was done on BBbike.org. The different steps from searching the BBbike site on the Google search engine to the extraction were explained and put into practice by the participants.
The presentation of the OSM Tracker application, which is an offline data logger and equivalent to a GPS, was made by Mr. KONAN Samuel. The group walked around the university campus to take coordinates of certain points for the realization of a map using QGIS software.
The ceremony ended at 2:15 pm with the closing words of the first community leader who thanked all participants.

Le mardi 06 août 2019, s’est tenue au campus 2 de l’université Alassane OUATTARA (Bouaké, Cote d’Ivoire) à la salle American Corner, la cérémonie inaugurale des activités de Youth mappers UAO. Elle a débuté à 09h45minutes en présence de 25 participants. Ladite cérémonie a commencé avec la présentation de la communauté YouthMappers. Ensuite un exposé a été fait sur les techniques d’extraction de données géographiques ouvertes pour les universitaires et enfin une présentation de l’application OSM Tracker a été faite.
Pour ce qui est de la présentation de la communauté YouthMappers UAO, M. ADINGRA Pacôme, initiateur et président du chapitre Youth mappers CURAT (Abidjan), a souligné l’objectif de la communauté qui est de former des jeunes et universitaires en cartographie. Il a aussi mentionné les différentes responsabilités qui incombaient à la communauté entre autre la mise en place de projets de cartographie qui seraient bénéfiques à tout le monde.
Concernant l’exposé sur les techniques d’extraction de données, il a été animé par M. GABÉ Anicet, premier responsable de Youth mappers UAO. La démonstration de cette technique s’est faite sur BBbike.org. Les différentes étapes depuis la recherche du site bbbike sur le moteur de recherche Google jusqu’à l’extraction ont été explicitées et misent en pratique par les participants.
La présentation de l’application OSM Tracker qui est un enregistreur de données hors ligne (l’équivalent d’un GPS) a été faite par M.KONAN Samuel. Une sortie a été effectuée au sein du campus pour la prise de coordonnées de certains points en vue de la réalisation d’une carte au moyen du logiciel QGIS.
La cérémonie a pris fin à 14h15 minutes avec le mot de fin du premier responsable de la communauté qui a remercié tous les participants.
