“Debes ir más allá del aula de clase” inicio con esta frase que recibí cuando recién ingresé a la universidad un mensaje que me daban las personas que ya tenían un recorrido de mucha experiencia en el ámbito turístico o inclusive de otras áreas y cada vez que escuchaba la frase, sabía que tenía un gran significado y más sobre todo de que venían de estas persona, que querían ayudar de alguna manera y la mejor forma era dar un mensaje alentador para seguir formando nuestro camino profesional.
“You must go further from the classroom”. I begin with this phrase that I received when I first came to university. A message given from people who had already made their own path and with a lot of experience especially in the tourism sphere. Each time I heard this phrase, I knew that it had a bigger meaning, especially coming from these people who wanted to somehow help; which the best way included encouraging the newcomers to grow academically and professionally.
Me alegra mucho haber tomado en cuenta esas palabras muy valiosas que me hicieron reflexionar como estudiante, muchos estudiantes tienen la meta de estudiar y graduarse, eso es muy bueno, pero en ese recorrido de ser estudiante es donde tenemos la oportunidad de crear nuestro camino de experiencia, de conocer, involucrarse, participar, innovar, ayudar y muchas otras que son bueno para el crecimiento profesional y personal.
I am very happy that I took this valuable advise that allowed me to reflect as a student, that many of my peers have the goal of studying and graduating. This is reasonable, but on this path of being a student is where we have the opportunity to create our own path of experience to know, to get involved, to participate, to innovate, to help, and many other examples that are good for professional and personal growth.
Ahora en mi etapa final como estudiante puedo decirles que aquellas personas que me dijeron esta frase tenían razón, fue bueno tomar en cuenta su consejo; desde mi perspectiva mi vida universitaria ya no era monótona paso a ser una aventura, pero en este caso una aventura de experiencias, empecé a ver las cosas distintas a crear ese camino que me mencionaron una vez aquellas personas.
Now in my final phase as a student I can inform you that these people, who told us this phrase, they were right. It was good to take into consideration their advice; from my perspective, my life as a university student was not monotonous. It went from being a simple adventure to an adventure of experiences, I began to see things differently to create this path set for me by others.
¿Cómo inicie a crear mi propia aventura? en ese momento de estudiante de tiempo completo decidí iniciar en un lugar donde me aportara conocimientos, donde podía ayudar y sobre todo reforzar habilidades que no sabía que tenía, a perder el temor en muchas cosas, en el momento de la decisión no tenía idea de lo que me esperaba en el camino y tampoco como iniciar, habían grupos/asociaciones en la universidad fue ahí que me di cuenta que formar parte de alguno me iba ayudar.
How did I initiate my own adventure? From the moment I became a full time student, I decided to begin at a place where I could learn, a place where I could help others, and especially to reinforce my skills that I did not know I had. To overcome my fear that I had of many things. At that moment of decision, I had neither an idea of what I was facing on the path nor how to even begin. There were groups and associations at the university which peaked my interest. It was at that moment that I realized being a member of one of these groups was going to be of big help.
Afortunadamente me encontré con el grupo YouthMappers en la universidad de Panamá que me ofrecía lo que estaba buscando, no pensé que al unirme iba a obtener mucho más de lo que esperaba, no solo en lo personal sino a los demás miembros del capitulo en la cual cada uno de nosotros tiene una historia que contar.
To my fortune I ran into the YouthMappers group at the University of Panama. This group offered me what I was looking for. I never thought that joining this group would offer me so much more than what I was looking for and to obtain such experiences. These experiences not only had an effect on my personal life but towards other members of the chapter in which each one of us has a story to tell.
Aún me falta mucho por aprender y seguir mejorando, pero ahora después de 5 años siendo parte de YouthMappers donde he realizado muchas cosas que al final de todo son experiencias, puedo decirles que “Debes ir más allá del aula de clase” en mi caso inicie como voluntario y es la mejor forma en que puedes iniciar en el ámbito en que sea de tu interés o una agrupación que estén realizando acciones en pro de nuestro entorno o la sociedad recientemente realizamos una entrevista de la importancia de ser voluntario con nuestros amigos de HandsOn México puedes ver la entrevista en este enlace: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=315792603160144
I am still learning a lot, and continue to improve. But for now I have realized that, after five years being part of YouthMappers, I can tell you that “You must go farther than the classroom”. In my case, I began as a volunteer and it is the best way in which one can initiate the path that would interest you. Or, one can be part of an association that takes actions to help our surroundings or society. One example of this took part with our friends of HandsOn Mexico. You can see the interview at this link:
