My name is Guy Pacome Adingra I am a PhD student at the University Center for Research and Application in Remote Sensing (CURAT) at the University Felix Houphouet Boigny of Abidjan. I am a member of OpenStreetMap Côte d'Ivoire (OSMCI) and in 2017 I founded the YouthMappers CURAT chapter and I am the current president. We had the honor this year to participate in the Open Data Center for Health Project (Open DCH) in which we have played an important role since the implementation of the data collection methodology and the training of collectors to the field phase and validation.
The OpenDCH project is a project to create an open geospatial data platform in the field of health in Côte d'Ivoire. This project is funded by USAID and integrated into the AidDATA Sustainable Development Intelligence program area and is implemented in partnership with Development Gateway and the Ivorian Ministry of Health.
My first contact with the project members was through Chad Blevins of the USAID GeoCenter and YouthMappers Technical Officer, who by email put me in touch with the USAID country leader Mr. Ettien and Mr. Ngom, Andrew, and Abedje Nesite from Development Gateway. We met and discussed the project and what he expected from us YouthMappers. I was delighted to participate in such a project because since the creation of the chapter activity had slowed and it was an opportunity for us to show what we knew to do but especially the possibility for students who had the opportunity to take part in it. It was great to experience this kind of collaborative project.
OpenDCH was done on several levels. At first, I planned with Mr. Abedje Nesite (DG) and Guy Morel Konan (OSMCI) the chronogram of all training activities and data to collect. I then conducted the training of trainers with Mr. Abedje and set up the process of selecting collectors for the city of Abidjan, San Pedro and Bouaké. For my part, I had a little experience from the OSMCI Community with whom YouthMappers CURAT collaborated on this project. But as part of this project, I have the most gained experience in management and the management of people because it was always a great responsibility for me to go on the ground with these young people in other cities, some were leaving their families for the first time and traveling far from their family home. On the other hand, we had to make sure that the work was done properly. In all. we traveled to 4 cities across the country Abidjan, Bouake, San Pedro and Soubre for data collection in the field. We organized 3 mapathons at CURAT in which all 22 student participated and we trained 94 people including 12 girls with methods of editing and recovery of the OSM data.
It was a wonderful experience and I would like to thank all the members of the YouthMappers CURAT Chapter who made themselves available throughout this project. I congratulate them for showing initiative and responsibility, so a big thank you to the Director of CURAT Dr. Kouame Kan who did not hesitate to open the doors of his establishment for meetings and training and who helped us whenever we needed. A big thank you to OSMCI members who shared their experiences with all these young cartographers. With this project I really experienced the YouthMappers slogan "we do not just build Map we build Mappers".
Guy Pacome Adingra is a 2019 YouthMappers Leadership Fellow and will be in Pretoria, South Africa in Janury for the Leadership Fellowship workshop. His passion for free geospatial technology has led him to OpenStreetMap activities in Côte d'Ivoire and he is now in charge of local community operations and the president of the YouthMappers CURAT chapter. Je m’appelle Guy Pacome Adingra je suis Doctorant au Centre Universitaire de Recherche et d’Application enTélédétection(CURAT) à l’UniversitéFelix Houphouet Boigny d’Abidjan. Je suis membre d'Openstreetmap Côte d’Ivoire(OSMCI) et en 2017 j’ai fondé le Chapitre Youthemappers CURAT d’ont je suis l’actuel président. Le projet OpenDCH est un projet de création d’une plateforme de données géospatiales ouvert dans le domaine de la santé en Côte d’Ivoire. Ce projet est financé par l’USAID et intégrée au domaine de programme Sustainable Development Intelligency d’ AidDATA il est mise en œuvre en partenariat avec Development Gatway et le ministère de la santé ivoirien.
Mon premier contact avec les membres du projet , c'est fait par l’intermédiaire de Chad qui par mail m’avait mis en relation avec le responsable de l’USAID pays M. Ettien et M. Ngom, Andrew, et Abedje Nesite de Development Gatway. Nous avons à l’issue d’un rendez-vous compris le projet et ce qu’il attendait de nous les Youthemappers. J’étais ravis de participer à un tel projet car depuis la création du chapitre les choses allaient au ralenti et c’était pour nous une occasion de montrer ce que l’on savait faire mais surtout la possibilité pour les étudiants qui y prendront part d’avoir l’expérience de ce genre de projet collaboratif.
OPENDCH s’est faite à plusieurs niveaux dans un premier temps j’ai planifié avec M. Abedje Nesite(DG) et Guy Morel Konan(OSMCI) le chronogramme de toutes les activités de formation et de collet des données. J’ai ensuite conduit la formation des formateurs avec M. Abedje et mise en place le processus de sélection des collecteurs pour la ville d'Abidjan, San Pedro et Bouaké. Pour ma part j’avais une petite expérience acquise auprès de la Communauté OSMCI avec qui les YoutheMappers CURAT ont collaboré sur ce projet. Mais dans le cadre de ce projet j’ai le plus acquis de l’expérience dans le management et la gestion des personnes car c’était toujours une grande responsabilité pour moi de partir sur le terrain avec ces jeunes dans d’autres villes, certains partaient pour la première fois loin leur domicile familiale. D’autre part il fallait s’assurer que le travail est fait comme il fallait. En tout nous avons Parcourus 4 villes à travers le pays Abidjan, Bouake, San Pedro et Soubre pour la collecte des données sur le terrain. Nous avons organisé au CURAT 3 Mapathons au quels ont participé en tout 22 étudiants, nous avons formé 94 personnes dont 12 jeunes filles aux méthodes de collet d’édition et de valorisation de la donné OSM.
Ce fut une expérience formidable et je tiens à remercier l’ensemble des membres du Chapitre Youthemappers CURAT qui se sont rendus disponibles tout au long de ce projet je les félicite car ils ont fait preuve d’initiative et de responsabilité,aussi un grand merci au Directeur du CURAT Dr. Kouame Kan qui n’a pas hésité à nous ouvrir les portes de son établissement pour les réunions et les formations et qui nous a apporté son aide à chaque fois que nous avions besoin. Un grand merci aux membres de OSMCI qui ont partagé avec tous ces jeunes cartographes leurs expériences. Avec ce projet j’ai réellement fait l’expérience du slogan des YoutheMappers « we don’t just build Map we build Mappers »
Guy Pacome Adingra sera en Janvier l'un de participant au Youthmappers leadership Fellow 2019 à Pretoria en Afrique du Sud. sa passion pour la technologie géospatiale libre l'a conduit vers les activités d’Openstreetmap en Côte d'Ivoire, il est aujourd'hui responsable des Opérations de la communauté local et le président des Youthmappers CURAT. il s'adonne à la photographie et au dessin durant ces temps libre et adore le basketball.
