Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: YouthMappers at RU Host Workshop on Connecting with Community Through Mapping

In order to foster geospatial awareness and empower young minds, YouthMappers at Rajshahi University (RU) hosted a fruitful workshop aimed at equipping students with essential mapping skills and insights into global mapping endeavors.

Led by Amena Rashid Bania, Regional Ambassador of YouthMappers, and supervised by Dr. Chandon Roy, Advisor of YouthMappers at RU and Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies, the workshop proved to be an enriching experience for all attendees. With 40 participants, the aim was to simply introduce them to mapping techniques and help them upgrade their leadership qualities.

The workshop delved into various facets of geospatial mapping, emphasizing the role of platforms like OpenStreetMap in disaster management, urban planning, and community development. Practical sessions utilizing OpenStreetMap, KoboToolBox, and other mapping tools provided participants with hands-on experience, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to humanitarian and development initiatives.

The seamless execution of the workshop was ensured by the dedicated efforts of the organizing committee, comprised of Abdulla Al Nahid, Sumon Das, and Basma Tarannum. Their commitment to promoting geospatial knowledge among students was evident in the event's success. Enthusiastic students attended the workshop, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn from experts and gain knowledge about the global mapping community.

One participant shared, "The workshop provided valuable information regarding the mapping community and inspired us to make a positive impact through our mapping projects. We extend our sincere appreciation to YouthMappers at RU for organizing such an enlightening and well-structured event."

Participants were also engaged in a Poster Competition, showcasing various YouthMappers activities such as Leadership Fellowship, YouthMappers Academy, and the history of YouthMappers, among others. The top three teams were rewarded by the Chapter, further encouraging participation and excellence within the YouthMappers community.

Moreover, our chapter's organizing secretary, Abdulla Al Nahid, and member Abu Hanif conducted a session on OSM ID editor, providing hands-on training and practical skills to the participants.

As YouthMappers at RU continues to empower young minds and foster a culture of geospatial awareness, the workshop serves as a testament to their commitment to making a difference in the world through mapping.

In conclusion, the workshop at RU stands as a beacon of empowerment, inspiring students to harness the potential of geospatial mapping for the betterment of communities worldwide. With initiatives like these, the future of mapping looks brighter than ever.

I extend my sincere appreciation to YouthMappers, for their steadfast support and our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, organizers, and supporters who contributed to the success of this workshop. Together, we are forging a path towards a brighter future, where the power of mapping transforms communities and empowers individuals to create positive change.
